1st Thanks to the fickle whims of a rather flexible pairing methodology, Charles Reinke managed to play a total of six games across four rounds, and capitalized on the opportunity by going 5-1 +476. He also scored above 500 in four of his six games. Two of those 500+ games happened in the first round, when he defeated Richard Lauder 510-321 while simultaneously besting Helen Flores 507-329. However, his victory over Richard was marred by the phony FUNNELER*, a word whose eminent plausibility saved it from too much scrutiny. Charles' single loss was against Mark Kenas, 367-519, a game where a paucity of bonus plays (zero of them, to be exact) was acutely felt in the face of Mark's VAUNCING#, ADHESION, ARMORIES, and HELICOPT. Even worse, the loss made Charles hungry for Chipotle, which is the anagram of HELICOPT.
2nd Thomas Reinke also was afforded the chance to play six games, but he didn't make the most of it, going 3-3 -65. He lost both of his matches against his brother Charles, the first being an impressive display of word-fueled firepower that resulted in a combined score of 1081 points, a record for this year. Thomas had three bingos of ALIENISM, OXIDATE, and HANDIEST, but Charles got down LAZIEST, ZOOECIUM, WAGONER, and CORPSED# to take a 576-505 victory. Thomas bounced back in the following game, recovering some of his lost spread points with a decisive 503-286 victory over Helen Flores. Helen had a sole bingo of HERDING, while Thomas had RETAINED and VESTURAL. Despite the second-place finish, Thomas appears to be a shoo-in for the club championship with his 73.5% winning percentage
