MARK KENAS TOPS COMBINED FIELD WITH 4-0 +674
1st Mark Kenas average 467 on the night as he handily swept the field on his way to a 4-0 night with a huge 674 cume points. Mark’s biggest win was a 489-277 game vs. Richard Lauder, a spread of 212 points. Mark also played the word of the week in that game, APYRASE.
2nd Richard Lauder finished in 2nd with a 3-1 +222 final tally. Richard and Susan Vergeront finished their night with a closely contested 456-437 game, Richard emerging atop by a scant 19 points as Susan’s last rack of the 5 tiles CELMV kept her from finding any “out in one” play.
3rd Mary Becker finished 3rd with a 3-1-86. Mary also won a tight game, when she finished with a 377-371 contest vs. Helen Flores in their 2nd game of the night.
4th Helen Flores took 4th as she turned back Lynda Finn 504-303 in their closing match up. Helen averaged a strong 419 this night. She played the nice word CERISES in that final game.
5th Susan Vergeront finished 5th with her own 2-2 +246 record. Susan was able to notch her highest game of the year when she bested June Scott 515-238 in a second game pairing. Her opening word “poofing” stayed as played, although it later proved to be just a good phony, and not a “legal word” used to describe puffy looking dress sleeves. Susan shared bingo queen honors this week with Mark Kenas, both recording 10 each.
A small field of 12 scrabble players met at Covenant this week and so the two groups were combined into one large field, sorry June, ... Shayla Dunn was awarded the $4 prize for the highest “KA” play (in KANAKA), Susan Vergeront had the lowest N play, while the remaining two went unrecorded.
