1st Charles Reinke enjoyed a comfortable first-place finish with a 4-1 +602 record. He started piling up spread quickly with an anomalously lopsided 476-327 win against Bryan Benwitz, buoyed by bingo bombs of FANTASM and ATOMIZER (Bryan had ALIENER). In round two, Charles won both games of a two-on-one, but his scores weren't quite as stratospheric as usual: 392-276 against Helen Flores (with the nice nine of SAUNTERER) and 378-338 against Mark Kenas (not managing to play a bingo but prevailing nonetheless). Charles' high-water mark (and, indeed, the highest-water mark of any player at club this year) came in round three against Dave Kinzer, as his final total of 618 points practically cracked the board in two as it accumulated. Charles played five bingos in that one: CROWNET, MARBLIER, STARLING, ETESIAN, and GYRATES. Riding the high of a 600-point game, Charles was only moderately deflated when his potential 5-0 night was ruined at the last by a 447-498 loss to Mark, where his BESONIAN#, UNPOETIC, and WAREHOU# went toe-to-toe with Mark's SELTZERS, IDEATING, and RAVELING.

2nd Thomas Reinke completed the Reinke sweep of the writeup with a 3-1 +152 finish. A round-one Collins-lexicon bout against Mark Kenas went well for Thomas, as it was his win, 447-414. UNPRIZED and INDIGENE were his bingos. A rematch against Mark would prove to be his only loss; although Thomas flexed his Collins knowledge with UNTEMPER# and URICASE, Mark hit back with DYESTER#, FURANOSE, and ANGLICE to win handily, 524-379. Thomas had a big game of his own against Sara McLaughlin, getting FUNNELED, HANGOUTS, and STUMMEST* (SHTUMMEST is good) for a 506-287 victory. The session ended with a 445-400 win against Bryan Benwitz; Thomas' FLEETING and a nice find of the uncommon SPAGYRIC were equaled by Bryan's DEVOTED and the even-more-uncommon KNOLLING for 102 points.

Helen played the word of the week, WAPITIS.
